Build the thing we wish we had at school

We are a small, independent UK team turning KS2 SATS revision into a daily ten-minute quest. There are no open roles right now, but we are always glad to meet people who care about this work.

Thank you for being curious about SATS LION. We are honest about where we are: brand new, just launching, and run by a tiny team. That means we do not have a list of vacancies to point you to today, and we would rather say so plainly than dress up a wish list as a hiring round.

What we can tell you is that this is going to grow, and that the people who join early tend to shape far more than their job title suggests. If you make excellent work, look after children, and want a hand in how an ambitious British product gets built, we would genuinely like to hear from you, even before a role formally exists.

1. Who we tend to need most

We are a one-codebase product (web first, because schools run us on Chromebooks with zero install) with a pixel-art world and "Leo the Lion" as the coach. The disciplines we lean on hardest, and the ones we are most likely to open first, are these:

Curriculum and content

Teachers and content specialists who know the KS2 statutory framework cold and can turn spelling, punctuation and grammar into questions that are accurate, fair and genuinely fun.

Engineering

Product engineers who care about correctness and craft: TypeScript, React and React Native, accessible interfaces, and the careful state and data work behind spaced repetition.

Design

Designers who can hold a playful pixel-art world and serious learning together, and make ten focused minutes feel like the best part of a child's evening.

Trust and safety

People who think hard about children's privacy and the UK Children's Code, and who treat data minimisation as a design constraint rather than a checkbox.

This is not an exhaustive list, and titles matter less to us than judgement. If your strength sits at the edges of these, or quietly spans more than one, please still get in touch.

2. What we care about

We are trying to build something that a parent trusts, a school can rely on, and a ten-year-old actually wants to open. That ambition only works if a few things are non-negotiable for everyone here.

Craft. We sweat the details: a question that is unambiguous, an animation that lands, a screen that loads fast on a tired school laptop. We would rather ship one thing properly than five things roughly.

Children's safety and privacy. We are built to be data-minimal and to meet the UK Children's Code. A learner profile carries no more than a first name and a year group; the contactable account is always held by an adult, a parent or a school, who consents on the child's behalf. We do not run ads and we do not sell data, and we expect everyone here to defend that.

Learning that is genuinely fun. Revision has a reputation, and we are out to change it. We care that the curriculum is aligned to the statutory framework and human-reviewed, and we care just as much that the experience makes a child want to come back tomorrow.

Working small and honestly. We are independent, so we move quickly, own our decisions, and tell the truth about what is and is not working. We would rather hear an early, awkward concern than a polished excuse.

3. How to reach us

There is no application form, because there is nothing formal to apply for yet. Instead, send a short, human note to hello@satslion.com and put Careers in the subject line so it reaches the right place.

Tell us, briefly:

  • What you do, and a link or two to work you are proud of (a repository, a portfolio, a unit of teaching, anything that shows your hand).
  • Why SATS LION, in particular, is interesting to you.
  • How you would like to be involved, whether that is a full role one day, a smaller project, or simply a conversation.

We read everything, though as a very small team we cannot always reply quickly. We will keep thoughtful notes on file, with your consent, and come back to you when something fitting opens up. SATS LION Ltd is registered in England and Wales, and we are an equal-opportunity team: we welcome people from every background and judge each note on the quality of the thinking behind it.

Not the right time? Try the product instead.

The clearest way to understand what we are building is to play it. Have a look, and if it sparks something, write to us at hello@satslion.com.
